Sixth Grade
A letter from Ann to Sixers and their Parents
Also known as SIXERS, these "tweens" are at a place where they have outgrown Elementary School, but they are not quite ready for Youth Group. This group, therefore, is not lumped in with the children's group activities. Instead, mission projects and special fellowship events are planned to intentionally nurture this group of young people. This time together allows time to bond and to share as a group and prepare them for the significant move into the Youth program (beginning at Seventh Grade).
When do SIXERS become SIXERS? In August of each year, as the students complete the 5th Grade, they have a promotion to the Sixth Grade Class. This is the month when special events and outings are planned for the class to allow a time of fellowship and getting to know each other better.
Special Responsibilities:
During the season of Advent, the Sixers lead in the lighting of the Advent Wreath during each of the Sunday morning worship services. This is a meaningful way in which our church family can begin to recognize the significant contributions of these young people.
When do Sixth Graders promote to the Youth Group?
In August, at the end of their Sixth Grade year, the transition begins. These students, who are now moving into the Seventh Grade, will be spending this month getting acquainted with the rest of the Youth Group, through special fellowship activities and outings. While these rising seventh graders are transitioning into Youth, the students who have recently finished the fifth grade (Rising Sixers) will be introduced to the SIXERS program, and the cycle continues! |
